I am committed to making my website usable by all people, whatever their abilities or disabilities. To achieve this, I strive to comply with the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2.
Accessibility Testing Methodology
In an effort to be transparent, I am sharing my methodology for testing each page of my website for accessibility compliance.
Using the Chrome web browser on a Mac computer, I perform the following manual checks:
- Keyboard navigation
- Active links
- Preview desktop view, tablet view, and mobile view
- Color contrast using the WebAIM Contrast Checker
- Operating system high contrast mode
- Enlarge text with web browser zoom feature
- On forms, look for field labels and error feedback
Next, I perform the following checks using VoiceOver with the Safari web browser:
- Heading order using the “next heading” shortcut
- Read through the content using the “start reading” shortcut and listen for descriptive link text, alternative text, plus grammar or spelling errors
Finally, I run an automated check using the WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools extension.
